Course Aims
Breaking The Cycle has designed this package to raise awareness of the issues of self-harm and how adults in a caring role can understand and react. The course will provide parents, carers and staff with a clear understanding of the dysfunctional cycles that lead to self-harm and the psychological and bio-medical elements that impact on it. For participants it will also increase confidence and knowledge to facilitate much more effective and holistic risk management.
The course aims to demystify what can be considered a complex process and provide staff with the confidence to manage issues of self-harm and be clear on what action is required to manage risks effectively in a holistic, social pedagogic fashion.

Course Aims
This course has been designed to raise awareness of theories and models of effective offender management, and to empower participants to effectively engage with service users. This course will explore the social, psychological and educational implications of embracing these successful methodologies and the potential benefits for service users. It will demonstrate how everyone who works with young people and adults can achieve great outcomes for themselves and young people by using models of practice steeped in person-centred holistic processes.

Course Aims
Breaking The Cycle has designed this package to raise awareness of legal highs and to empower participants to effectively engage with service users. This course will explore the social, psychological and health implications as well as the risks associated with legal highs. It is imperative that everyone who works with young people and adults have an understanding of legal highs and the impact that it has. In addition course participants will learn how new thinking with Social Pedagogy can address legal highs in a much more focused and empowering way. We will also introduce interventions designed to assist users make positive choices to assist them live free of legal highs and substance misuse.

Course Aims
A course designed specifically for those that believe in working holistically and raises awareness of the issues surrounding parenting and the dynamics of family life. The course will provide parents, carers and staff with a clear understanding of the benefits of understanding how stresses and pressures impact on family life. There will also be opportunity to explore different parenting models and how they can provide better outcomes for young people and their families.
This course uses models that include effective communication and understanding anger as well as the internal/external locus of control. All of this is placed within the context models of a practical of working within families. This training culminates in how to devise an effective exit plan which is person-centred and works towards successful outcomes addressing medium and long term safeguarding concerns as well as managing short term risk. Safeguarding management, effective planning and assessment are key to success for all organisations and any plans should seek to empower professionals to make decisions which fit with ‘defensible decision making’ and effective practice utilising a multi-agency approach. This training will provide participants with an understanding of Social Pedagogy and how to underpin these principles within the areas of assessment, risk safeguarding and exit planning. The success of such an approach can be evidenced in many areas of Europe and has been adopted nationally through organisations such as Derbyshire Looked After Children. Risk Management and MAPPA (Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements)

Course Aims
Breaking The Cycle has designed this package to raise awareness of the workings of MAPPA to a range of staff from the Police, Social Services, Probation, Youth Offending Services and Health as well as anyone playing an active role within the MAPPA Strategic Management Boards sub groups. The course will provide a clear understanding of the MAPPA processes and increase confidence and knowledge pertaining to risk management.
The course aims to demystify what can be considered a complex process and provide staff with the confidence to identify MAPPA cases and be clear on what action is required to manage risk effectively. By the end of the day staff will have a full understanding of MAPPA categories and levels of oversight coupled with a clear understanding of internal and external factors to risk management. The issue of ‘added value’ is key if staff are to understand and gain the full benefit of the MAPPA process and our course will cover this area to ensure staff are confident and able to complete successful and professional MAPPA referrals.

Effective Communication & Understanding Anger

Course Aims
Over many years Breaking The Cycle has developed practical interventions for hundreds of people who have anger management issues and the staff that care for them. This has allowed them to explore the roots of anger, the early warning signs, denial and exploring positive outcomes.
We have distilled that knowledge into a one day course that is based on our deep understanding of the physical and psychological changes that occur in conflict. This course allows participants to gain an understanding of the processes of managing those responses. It delves into effective communication and an understanding of the differences in the external and internal locus of control.
Using clear communication and lots of exercises we will give each course participant a clear understanding of the processes involved in anger, how best to cope with them when they occur and how to effectively communicate to reduce anger in the future.
