Education Worker with the Gwent Missing Children and Child Sexual Exploitation Team

Alexis has worked in the Education sector for just over 4 years after completing a BA Honours degree in Childhood and Youth studies and is now undertaking a Master’s degree in this subject; she has additional qualifications in Child Protection and Safeguarding, Drug and Alcohol Misuse, Counselling, Resilience and Well-being in Children and Young People, Dealing with Severely Challenging Behaviour, and Restorative Approaches to Managing Behaviour and Discipline. Alexis specialises in working with the most vulnerable of children and young people, most notably those who are looked after by the local authority and those who have severe behavioural and attachment disorders. Alexis is thrilled to be the Education Officer for the Gwent Missing Children’s Project, having been recently seconded from her substantive post in a local Secondary School as the Looked After Children’s Intervention Officer.

In 2016 Alexis was invited to write a case study of good practice for her working with and supporting of LAC pupils within the South-East region for the Welsh government, additionally she has furthered this with her academic writings in University of Critical Practice with Children and Young People.

Alexis has substantial experience of working with children aged between 11-16 years as well as their families and the professionals who surround them, and in 2014 established one of the first dedicated provisions for Looked After Children within a secondary school setting in the Torfaen authority, designing and delivering bespoke academic and therapeutic intervention packages for Children and Young People most at risk of exclusion. Alexis has also held position as a Cover Supervisor delivering Maths and other curriculum based subjects within a mainstream setting and has excellent proficiency of working with multi-agency teams, including Education, Health, Police, Youth Justice, Social Services, Youth Services, and the Voluntary Sector.  

Alexis lives in Torfaen with her partner; has two young children, and enjoys spending time exploring the local area that she lives in with them and their family dog.
